However, Connor Wong, who was expected to be the primary starter, struggled significantly throughout the season, leading to uncertainty regarding his future with the franchise.
The Red Sox seem keen on finding an effective platoon partner for Narvaez this offseason. Recent reports suggest that discussions between the Red Sox and Realmuto have remained active since November, indicating mutual interest as the offseason progresses.

As Realmuto prepares for his 13th Major League Baseball season, he continues to be regarded as a valuable asset behind the plate, though it’s clear he may not possess the same peak performance that fans once admired. In the 2025 season, he recorded a batting average of .257, hitting 12 home runs and driving in 52 runs, all while maintaining solid defensive skills at one of the most physically demanding positions in baseball.
While Realmuto certainly brings value to the table, it's evident that the Red Sox are prioritizing some larger targets in free agency first. Therefore, monitoring Realmuto’s situation will be essential, as he could become a viable fallback option if the team’s initial plans do not materialize as hoped.
