Multiple Crashes on A610 Nottinghamshire Due to Icy Roads! (2026)

Freezing temperatures caused chaos on Nottinghamshire roads this weekend, with multiple accidents reported, leaving drivers shaken and authorities scrambling to respond.

On Saturday morning, the A610 near Giltbrook became a hotspot for collisions, with five separate crashes reported due to treacherous icy conditions. One incident even involved a car rolling onto its roof! Thankfully, a man involved in the accident was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. The road was temporarily shut down while emergency services managed the scene.

But the A610 wasn't the only area affected. Police also received reports of multiple crashes on the A38, near Mansfield, all linked to the widespread ice.

Temporary Chief Inspector Jon Scurr issued a crucial warning, emphasizing the need for extra caution. "We're urging drivers to please take extra care on the roads today as there are still significant stretches of ice present," he stated. He also advised motorists to maintain a safe distance from other vehicles, reduce their speed, and plan for extra travel time. And this is the part most people miss: ensuring your vehicle is properly equipped for winter driving, including checking tire pressure and tread depth, can make a huge difference.

Controversially, some might argue that road maintenance could be improved to prevent such incidents. What do you think? Were the warnings sufficient, or could more have been done to keep drivers safe? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
